Second to fashion of course, we here at Madison and Laurel consider ourselves quite the foodies. We’re no Anthony Bourdain, but we have been exploring new restaurants cuisines, bars, and coffee houses since we laid eyes on each other. If co-ordering were in the Olympics, I guarantee you, we would at least win silver.
Market weeks allow us 1 solid week a month to pack in the spots we must try together and we (well I’m really the reso whore of the group) typically have made at least 2/night in preparation.
Especially in New York, every spot and neighborhood calls for a different look. Although our ensembles may include more elastic waistbands and voluminous baby dolls than we’d prefer to allow for maximum culinary enjoyment, here are a few of the places we dined in last week that made our “YOU MUST TRY” list. Oh and “WHAT YOU’RE WEARING” to each. Aren’t we bossy?
#1 – THE MEATBALL SHOP
We dined on both their brunch AND their dinner menu (overachievers). It’s easy to go healthy here and just do a “naked ball” which is an ala carte order of meatballs/chickenballs/veggieballs/balls du jour and pair that with one of their fresh veggie side dishes. Doesn’t matter which location you’re visiting, this is a hipster’s paradise!
Outfit idea: Quilted hot shorts with contrast black piping, Lush Clothing for Pacific Sunwear. Purchase here. Collared zip-back cropped blouse in kitschy cat print from Urban Outfitters found here. Throw on some black opaque tights, these Essex eyelet flats from Pixie market, and a high bun. Hipster spot, check!
#2: AMERICAN CUT
Within the first 5 minutes, Iron Chef and personal buddy of M&L Marc Forgione, was going table by table, shaving truffles onto customers dishes. Um, yes please! Dishes to highlight – the shrimp cocktail (trust us), the MF’ing steak sauce, and the pumpkin cheesecake. Pure carnivore heaven!
Outfit: this is a dressier spot so let’s throw on this lace t-back dress in regal purple from the trendy GB department at Dillard’s. If there’s not a Dillard’s in your area, you can buy online here.
You are looking at their happy hour menu because that’s all we ordered from. Being from Cali, and living in San Diego for a while, I am a tough critic when it comes to comida mexicana. But the authentic guac, flautas, spicy margaritas and our adorable bartender made me give this spot a gel manicured thumbs up!
Outfit: You are now in the East Village. Keep it casual. Try, but don’t try. Got it? We just delivered this high neck chiffon tank with dot mesh insets in 3 print options. Click here and pick your poison. While you’re there, this affordable and trendy retailer also has these dip-dyed skinnys that will pair perfectly back to your oversized tank.
And that is the end of our Top 3! You went hipster, you went boogie, and you finished off with a hot Latino and a bill under $50. Stay tuned for the December Market Edition!
