Frequent travel has not been a foreign concept (pun intended) to me. Early morning runs across the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia, navigating the Portobello Flea Market in London like a local, scouring the print market in New Delhi, competing for the best street shots in Harajuku – “lucky” does not even come close to describing how I feel about the opportunity to have had these experiences.
As much as I would love to call out any of the above spots as my fav and not be such a stereotypical girly girl, I can’t deny the spell that Paris has on me! The second I land at Charles de Gaulle I am overwhelmed with inspiration and romanticism. And that’s not just because in Paris carbs don’t count.
With that said though, my Parisienne affinity does not hold true when it comes to the runway shows usually – New York and London take up most of the space in my inspiration folders. Finishing up our recaps and post mortems on Resort 2014 for our customers, I was surprised to find that I was grabbing images from so many French designers.
Jay Ahr took athletic inspired to #nextlev with his popcorn textured french terrys, exposed seaming details, and shredding that revealed some serious rocker status bling bling. Taking casual fabrics and pitching them into dressy shapes like a low back mini dress and taking dressy fabrics and pitching them into casual shapes like a drawstring track pant is just the unexpected contradiction we like in our clothes (and men too btw).
