As a belated Mother’s day gift, I took my mom and sister to a taping of one our favorite shows, Fashion Police!  This hilarious program found on our one and only source of all important information, the E! channel,  has become part of our Saturday ritual when we are together.  As we catch up on the weekly episodes, we of course provide each of our own personal commentary.  And even though this particular audience consists of a 66 year old teacher (think Anne Taylor), a partner in a prestigious law firm (think Banana Republic), and a self proclaimed fashionista (think Topshop) – we usually agree!

I haven’t always been a Joan fan myself.  In fact I found she and her daughter annoying and even offensively ill-prepared when reporting on red carpets. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I was stranded on a long flight and caught her documentary “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work” that I gained a newfound respect for her and her role as a groundbreaking female comedian of our time.

Back to the show, here are a few of the looks they/we discussed:

Image

Rihanna: everyone loved this look as it was a departure from her usual over the top sexy, bad girl ensemble.  The bright colors and shape of the skater skirt make her look girly and feminine!  The only detail the panel did not mention which we felt was important was her tattoo on her chest made the totally open button down appear more covered up!  Almost like an patterned bandeau.  Very sneaky RiRi!

Solange: Everyone seemed to be in favor of this look except George.  He felt that the combination of the chevron stripes, the bright satin heels, and the details of the dress itself (peplum/puff sleeves) were too much.  I do feel Solange’s looks can be a little schitzo, but I love this one!  I think I also just have fro-jealousy – just makes everything look cooler right!?!

Anne Hathaway: as Joan put it, finally Anne picks a dress that is more annoying than she is!  LOVING her new blonde dye job but totally agree with the panel’s critique that the make-up is too dark and heavy for her new hue and skin tone.  The futuristic vibe of the dress does not go with her matronly strappy heels that look like they were picked up on the way to the event at Cathy Jean!  Did Rachel Zoe style this look because it is the opposite of MAJ!

If you’re in the LA area, a trip to this taping is highly recommended!  Joan Rangers – I salute you!
